Hello,
I was wondering when the next round of racing was going to begin. I have been following Formula Pi for a while and think that I would finally like to compete!
In the meantime, are there any other resources that I can look into for testing? I have read through the blog posts about the design and sampled some of my own code. It would be great if there were something like a Gazebo simulation that I could continue to develop on. Unfortunately I do not have the resources to purchase a MonsterBorg and build a track myself.
Thank you for your time!
Unfortunately we have had to cancel the 2019 series and it is unclear if / when we will be running a series in 2020.
The good news is that there are a couple of simulation projects freely available that you can use for software testing :)
The first is https://github.com/computernerd486/FormulaPiSim - which is the simulation we use for testing.
The second is https://github.com/wilselby/formulapi_ROS_simulator - we have not tried this one but it seems like it has good instructions.
That is a shame! Is there anything the community can do to help out, or are you folks simply too busy? I certainly hope we'll be able to race again in the near future.
Thank you for sharing those projects. I'll be sure to try them out!
Basically it takes three of us to run each round and there are not very many weeks over the next few months where we are all available :(
We would love to run Formula Pi again in the future, but we do not want to make any promises that we cannot keep.
My company is interested in starting up a U.S. Based FormulaPi event just like what you have been doing there in the UK. They want the Engineering staff here to get more involved with AI and Robotics. The thought was that with a fun event such as this it might get more people involved. We also had some thoughts about sharing the resources to local schools so the schools could compete against each other. Eventually the concept would be to allow National and International competition like what you have provided. Who can I contact there about licensing your existing FormulaPi source code for use here in the U.S? Do you think this would be possible?
Finally, what is the status for FormulaPi in the UK? Will it ever continue?
This idea is very interesting! I thought same thing in Japan.
Formula Pi is very exciting race and in terms of education, it would be atractive!
