I haven't been able to login to the ftp server last night, as a backup I have sent the tar.gz file by email instead so I hope I will not be disqualified. Is there a problem with the server or am I doing something wrong? it's never failed before and i haven't changed settings since. is anyone else having trouble?

I had the same issues yesterday and contacted them. They will have a look today and probably extend the time so everyone can submit it.
We had a problem with the FTP service on our server at some point over the weekend which was preventing both login and file transfers.
This has now been sorted and we are extending the submission deadline for race 2 until tomorrow (Tuesday 13th at 09:00 GMT).
A few teams have made submissions by email and I will be sending a message around soon to confirm which teams we have successfully received code from via both the FTP or email.
