Hi,
I am new to this site and the competition seems great! I bought an entry to the winter competition from PiBorg. I have read through your blogs and rules mostly but I still have some questions.

How does registration for the competition work?
Where exactly is the code and simulator available?
Can we modify and test our code without having actual hardware at our side?
If we do need to have a setup on our end what needs to be the exact specs?
If we have a team do multiple people need to create accounts and register here?

It would be great to have these questions answered moving forward.
Thanks,
Jashojit

Getting started

Hi Jashojit,

Thanks very much, it is always nice to hear when people like what we are doing :)

You should get a couple of emails later today with a registration form and details on how to access the code. The code itself is on SourceForge and you will need a SourceForge login to get access.

The simulation should allow you to change the code quite a lot without the real hardware. It works by taking the motor power levels and returns images that are representative of the camera viewpoint.

The standard robots are MonsterBorgs which we have tuned and calibrated so that they have identical performance. We are also going to introduce a faster robot class, but their design is not quite finalised yet.

If you want to setup a Raspberry Pi with the same basic SD card as we are using see the Standard Formula Pi SD card image - Monster series page.

You can have as many people as you like in your team, you only need an entry / registration per robot taking part. Generally this will be one entry per season you take part in :)

Keep an eye out for the registration emails, they will be from info@formulapi.com

Regards,
Arron.

Hi Arron,

Hi Arron,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I got the registration mails and steps. Do you have a last date for registration?

Registration date

Not at this time, but we will want all the information at least a couple of weeks before the actual event starts.

At the moment we have not fixed a start date because some of the bits we are preparing are not quite ready to show to everybody. We want to make sure all our teams get a fair chance at competing :)

You have at least a month as we have pushed the entry closing date back to October 31st due to the delay.

Further steps concerning the entry

I bought an entry ticket yesterday evening, registered at SourceForge but till now didnt get any further instructions =( I'm really excited about starting to optimize the basic code.
Hope that emails will come soon!!

All sent now

The registration and access emails have been sent to you now :)

It usually takes us about a day to send these emails as we have to do some setup at our end first, for example allocating entry numbers.

Entries etc

Speaking of entry confirmation - we bought our entry way back when it first opened (before last season I believe). Are these details (entry number etc) confirmed for us yet? Not heard anything yet and don't want to miss out if we've slipped through the net.

Thanks

Adam

Entry details

Sorry about that, you are definitely entered for next season :)

Your entry number is back to 10, like the first season, but still has the same password.
