I love the FormulaPi model and would like to run a local one on Oakland California for students in the local high school. It's a relatively low-income area, so I'd provide the cars and set up the track in a donated warehouse, where we can keep it in place for races every month or so.
My question is how best to do this given the rules about not distributing the code (http://formulapi.com/comment/240#comment-240).
Can you advise me on how best to do this as an official "FormulaPiX"? (like TEDx, local community-run versions of the TED conference)
Ideally, I'd sponsor the winners of each of our ForumlaPiX races to submit their code as an official entry in the next real ForumulaPi.
I think this is a great way to spread the concept of FormulaPi further, both including more people and bringing in the excitement of racing live together on a local track before sending your code off to compete with the best on a remote one.
What we will do is get the whole Formula Pi team together to discuss what we can do and what ideas work best.
Most of us (myself included) have been away for the holidays, so it will probably be a few days before we have figured out what the best options are.
Has there been any update for this?
I really love the idea of having a FormulaPi-X.
For the past several years I've been very involved with my kids robotics clubs, with kids aged 6 to 15. We have several such groups/clubs in the NW Arkansas area, that meet after school. Engineering department at the nearby University is also actively involved in these groups and already sponsors an annual robot competition using Lego Mindstorm.
