Winter 2017 - Challenge 3 Results.

So... Nobody is garaunteed a place in the final yet. 11 teams have the potential. Even Swinders and/or enigma might still end up in P6/7.

The threshold for the top 5 is now 28 points, so with 10 points remaining unless there are disqualifications anyone with less than 18 points definitely can't make the final, that is P12 or lower.

Well done enigma for getting up to 2nd this round. Also well done to rasparras, whacky racer and chitty chitty pi pi who are all still fighting back and have kept themselves in the running.

i think that... these results will put that car into the final automatically by scoring 38 points or more.

swinders / enigma - finish the race >=2pts
hayler-goodalls - 2nd or higher >=8pts
dinotoo / lambda.p - win their race =10pts

other ways of getting into the final are possible via tiebreaks.
looking at possible tiebreaks - there are more possibilities but these are the highlights.

in order of best to worst, the tiebreak scores for those eligible before the races are (team/laps):
lambda.p 65, hayler-goodalls 62, swinders 59, dinotoo 58, iqaudio 58, TSKK1 55, CCPP 49, TSKK2, 45, RPdI 38, enigma 24, whacky racer 19

for chitty chitty pi pi and/or whacky racer to get to the final (28 pts threshold):
- they must win their own race
- dinotoo and lambda.p must not finish/score no points
- TSKK1 and IQaudIO not higher than 5th
- TSKK2 and RasPerras not higher than 2nd.
- this will set up a tiebreak on laps of up to 8 cars. (current p4-p11)
- in a tiebreak scenario CCPP have a 30 lap advantage over whacky racer

for TSKK2 and/or RasPerras to reach the final (threshold 30 pts):
- at least 2nd place and tiebreak(s) as above, or
- they must win their own race
- hayler-goodalls must not finish their race/score no points
- dinotoo and lambda.p not higher than 5th
- TSKK1 and IQaudIO not higher than 4th
- this will set up a tie break of up to 7 cars (current p3-p9)
- in a tiebreak TSKK2 have a 7 lap advantage over RasPerras

then it gets complicated.
- TSKK1 and/or IQaudIO must finish their race to score at least 28 points.
- 4th or 5th place - the same tiebreak scenarios as above
- 3rd place (32 pts threshold), and... H-Goodalls <=5th, lambda.p/dinotoo <=4th, up to a 5 way tiebreak
- 2nd place (34 pts threshold), and... H-Goodalls <=4th, lambda.p/dinotoo <=3rd, up to a 5 way tiebreak
- 1st place (36 pts threshold), and... H-Goodalls <=3rd, lambda.p/dinotoo <=2nd, up to a 7 way tiebreak

and then there's every other possibility in between...

enigma have got themselves up into 2nd place by doing only 24 laps!?
in fact enigma in 2nd have completed fewer laps than farstar in 19th!?
the it guy, who now can't make it to the final, has done more than twice as many laps as enigma!

where did that come from??? it's mysterious and it's difficult to understand!!??

in fact of the total laps completed by all cars over the season so far, those 11 cars still eligible for the final have done 66% of the total between them. enigma has done 3% of the total, the rest of the top 7 have done at least 7% each. Pico Hulkenborg claims less than 1% of the total laps of the season so far. :(((
